1 surgical hub with a capacity to carry out an additional 120 operations per week.

In just four months Vanguard has designed, developed, and delivered a surgical hub to assist the NHS in southwest London to substantially increase capacity. This additional facility is vital to deliver elective care procedures and ultimately reduce the waiting list backlog.

Situated on one of the hospital car parks, a surgical hub complex has been created including 4 operating theatres and all of the associated support areas to provide safe patient care. The construction of the premanufactured units only started in March and they will start receiving patients on Monday just four months later.

Dr Sarah Hammond Consultant Anaesthetist at St George’s Hospital commented, “we are looking to see 120 patients here a week which is about a third increase on the work we are doing on our other site, we are expecting this to have a significant impact”.

Although staff are already stretched they are determined to get more patients treated in the new facility.

Dr Shamim Umarji – Clinical Director for Surgery at St George’s Hospital commented, “we have seen patients in terrible pain, we have had patients who have been crippled by pain, and they have experienced tremendous disability. We really do need surgical centres like this to manage these patients and finally get them treated”.
